Jennie Lunt has been running an interior design business for over 2 years. Despite completing many successful residential design projects, she felt “frustrated at slow progress” in her business.

At a crossroad with two active brand names online, Jennie had lots of decisions to make about how to move forward. Suffering from decision fatigue, she needed help navigating her business challenges. Jennie saw mentoring an opportunity to “have a sounding board to help move on with decisions quicker”.

Jennie had “mindset blocks about creating a sustainable business”

Having already met Vicky at an interior design event, Jennie turned to her when she needed help. When asked why she chose Vicky as her mentor, she said, “I liked Vicky’s style… it was a bit more challenging, but in a supportive way”. It’s “good to work with people who are opposite to you because it should be complimentary, rather than too comfortable”.

Jennie signed up for 6 sessions, every two weeks. This accommodated for family life and school holidays, an important detail for a working mum. With lots of things she wanted to work on, in her words the biggest challenge was the “mindset shift around treating it as a business and knowing my numbers”.

Mentoring to set priorities and turn goals into a reality

Making her business a priority was vital. Mentoring helped Jennie to identify, “I’m making a transition – it’s not a hobby, it’s a business. Therefore, my prices [and packages] need to reflect the amount of time that goes into them.”

At the start of the year, Jennie had two different brand accounts on Instagram. The first mentoring sessions focused on how to tackle this to move forward.

The brand was quickly integrated to one name, with an updated website showing new pricing and packages reflecting her worth. Mentoring gave Jennie the confidence to “have my prices out there, which I probably wouldn’t have done otherwise”.

Unstuck and able to move forward with clarity

Mentoring helped Jennie to “feel more confident in why I was doing things” and “the mindset shift has really been made, so that’s been very successful”.

It’s now time for reflection to “let some of those things sink in” from the 6 sessions. Jennie will focus next on “forming regular habits for consistency in sales and marketing”.

Jennie’s favourite part of the process was “getting unstuck and being able to move forward with clarity – I now have no doubt over the path I’m taking”. That’s a huge result in only 12-weeks (and 6 sessions)!
